"Heartbeats" is the first single from The Knife's 2003 album ''Deep Cuts'', released in Sweden on 27 December 2002 and re-released on 4 October 2004.
An acoustic cover version was recorded by José González for his debut album ''Veneer''. After this version was featured in a 2005 advertisement for Sony's Bravia brand of televisions, it was released as a single in January 2006.
The song was listed at #15 on Pitchfork Media's top 500 songs of the 2000s and at #87 on ''Rolling Stones top 100 songs of the 2000s. In October 2011, ''NME'' placed it at number 95 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".
==Cover versions==

The song was covered by José González on his 2003 album ''Veneer'' and released as his first single in 2006, peaking at #9 on the UK Singles Chart. This version was used in a Sony Bravia advertisement and also in several TV shows. The song appears on the third soundtrack of ''One Tree Hill'' "The Road Mix" and it was also used in the show's season 4 episode "Some You Give Away", ''Bones'' in the "The Salt in the Wounds", in an episode of ''Scrubs'' called "My Hard Labor", in ''Brothers & Sisters'', in Covert Affairs, and in ''90210''. It is also a soundtrack of ''Donkey Punch'' a 2008 British horror thriller film.
The song was covered by Belgian girls choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers on their 2006 release ''It All Leads to This''. On 12 March 2011, Ellie Goulding sang a version of the song on BBC Radio 1's ''Live Lounge'', as a farewell to DJ Jo Whiley. Get Busy Committee took a sample of this song for their song "My little razorblade" on their first album "Koalas and Uzis". Example took a sample of this song for his song "One Night" off his remix album, "We Didn't Invent the Remix".
German alternative rock band Saint Aside released a rock oriented cover of the José Gonzáles version on their 2011 album ''Angel Come''. The song was released as a single on 19 August 2011. The album is due for release on 30 September 2011. Seattle dream pop band Golden Gardens covered the song on their debut EP, ''Somnambulist'', released on December 6, 2010.
